林風(fēng)眠 1900年生于廣東梅州。1919年赴法國學(xué)習(xí)繪畫，入巴黎國立高等美術(shù)學(xué)校。1925年出任北平藝術(shù)專科學(xué)校校長兼教授。1928年受蔡元培之邀任杭州國立藝術(shù)院校長，倡導(dǎo)中西合璧的藝術(shù)運(yùn)動創(chuàng)作經(jīng)驗(yàn)和理論。解放后，任上海中國畫院畫師、中國美術(shù)家協(xié)會上海分會副主席。1977年定居香港繼續(xù)從事藝術(shù)創(chuàng)作至晚年。作品曾入選法國秋季沙龍。曾在北京、法國等地舉辦個展，是享有國際聲望及地位的中國畫家之一。
Lin Fengmian was born in Meizhou, Guangdong Province in 1900, and went to France where he entered ENSBA in 1918. Since 1925, he had been a professor and later president of Beiping College of Art. Two years later, upon invitation of Cai Yuanpei, he served as headmaster of Hangzhou National Art College where he advocated enthusiastically art creation and theory that combined both oriental and western experience. After the liberation of China, he became a professional artist in Shanghai Academy of Chinese Painting and vice president of China Artists Association, Shanghai Branch. Later he spent the rest of his life in Hong Kong. Enjoying lofty international reputations, he held solo exhibitions in Beijing, France, etc.
